Today I went to love, pray for, and visit two women who have HIV AIDS.

For a Laugh!

Some stories that hopefully make you laugh, or at least smile!


1. The fridge mystery
For some reason I found our fridge to be not very cold. I asked my housemates about this and they said that whenever they would go in it would be turned down. So we started turning the fridge up and seeing what happened but for some reason every time we went in it was turned down. I had bought some drinks and yogurt so I really wanted it to be cold so I would turn it up higher thinking that it would only be cold if it were set high. Then one night our house girl went to Dorah and asked who kept turning up the fridge because all the vegetables were frozen and she couldn’t cut them. Turns out it was our domestic helper who kept turning the fridge down!

2. Almost ate it
This story isn’t so much funny as it is embarrassing, you might have to be with me when you hear to actually laugh – but anyway! It was one of my first weeks here and I decided to go to Bourbon coffee by myself to do some work. I get up the stairs and see it just calling out to me so I proudly walked with my backpack on and don’t realize there is a ledge in front of me – I hit the ledge and went flying in with the loud noise of my flip-flops smacking the ground. Luckily I didn’t fall and I just laughed while the waiters said they were sorry!

3. The Avocado
One morning Nicole and I decided to go to Shokola. Neither one of us had eaten anything because we were so excited to get this one dish. While when we got there it hadn’t opened yet, once we got in there was no power but we were determined to wait until it came back on. Over an hour later I am so hungry I feel sick…. So Nicole decides to grab the Avocado that fell off one of the trees by us at the restaurant and I cracked it open to eat some!

4. Gum
This isn’t really a story… I just stepped in gum. It was funny.

One Great Day.

I have had so many great days here – and today was NO exception!

I was able to have fun and just be myself with a couple Rwandese people that I met through the church. They are street boys that live in the area of Vivante Church. I have been slowly coming out of my shell more and more - but today I was able to fully let go, just laugh, and be myself!

In the morning I went to visit Isabel with Nicole and we taught her some English and math. We then took her up to the corner store to get some Fantas and she walked proudly down the street with my camera around her neck. (It was so cute)

We then went around town showing Mike the bus route and stopped in town for some lunch at an Italian bar (that’s right – more pizza!) I was so excited to order a salad and find out that I got a WHOLE slab of goat cheese!

In the afternoon we all headed up by the church to meet the guys. We called Jean Paul to say we were in what they call “mango village” the only problem is – he thought we were in a mango village in another part of town! So we waited on the side of the road for just over and hour, talking with people, playing with kids, and getting marriage proposals. Finally, over an hour later, Jean Paul found us and off we went!

David was at the house so he joined us as we decided to go do a photoshoot! It was so much fun to get the guys to pose and just have fun taking pictures. (This camera is coming in handy). We then decided to go for some Fantas and played some cards before heading to Church for bible study.

The bible study was very interesting; right now at Church we are studying the Attributes of God. I find that these messages are very challenging sometimes when I think about this country and what everyone has gone through. It definitely makes me really think, learn and question the God that I serve. I love that I am being stretched in my faith and really learning from him while I am here.
